Bábel Budapest - Az Olimpia Árnyéka

Babel Budapest: The Shadow of the Olympics
– Hungarian Run

Budapest, July 1968. The Hungarian capital and the whole country are ablaze with excitement, as less than a month remains until the start of the first Budapest Olympics. Athletes, coaches, family members, and tourists from all around the world are arriving to witness the glory of the Second Hungarian Republic and its athletes, for whom the withdrawal from Mexico City represents a never-to-be-repeated opportunity: they can compete on home turf to become the world’s best. The capital and the Budapest police face an unprecedented challenge: maintaining order in the bustling city, where the struggle is not only on the fencing piste, in the swimming pool, or in the stadiums. In the background, the wealthy, the influential, and the powerful are playing their nationwide chess game, where the stakes are not gold, silver, or bronze medals, but life, death, peace, and war. And when János Kádár, the chief of police, receives an invitation to a prestigious press event, he doesn’t yet realize that he is about to face one of the toughest challenges of his career.

The LARP takes place in a fictional world, in the alternative Hungary of the 1950s.

In the game ‘Shadow of the Olympics,’ participants take on the roles of guests attending a prestigious closed-door art auction held at the Ráth Villa, among whom (and other roles) are the evening’s host, Olympic athletes, members of the press, and even the Chief of Police of Budapest. The characters include a mix of historical figures and original characters created by us.

Babel Budapest is a chamber LARP, where the action takes place in one location over a relatively short time period, with the emphasis on character interaction and drama, and where physical conflict, although it may occur between characters, is rare by default, as is the death of characters

(This does not preclude one or the other, or both, from occurring during LARP!)
